Just how safe is your Dryer Vent?

According to the National Fire Protection Association, close to 17,000 fires are caused each year by dryer vent fires. The leading cause of these fires POOR INSTALLATION and dusty LINT FILLED exhaust piping. These are the best things to look for when checking the safety of your dryer vent.

  • First, locate your dryer vent off the back of your dryer vent and follow that pipe to the outside vent termination. (Call us if you don't know where your dryer vent is and need help locating)
  • Be sure your Vent piping does not have any holes and is properly secured together at the joints.
  • Your Vent should be either hard piped, or have a hard flexible aluminum flex. If your vent piping feels soft or paper like, do yourself a favor and call us right away.
  • The Opening or Termination (shown in picture above) of the Dryer Vent should be free of debris and the Termination Louver should be free flowing. You should see the louver open when the dryer is on and closed when the dryer is off.
  • Additionally, the vent opening/termination should be located in a place that will not create a fire or health hazard. Remember, the dryer vent carries CARBON MONOXIDE which, can be harmful and even fatal to humans and pets alike.

End of Summer Air Conditioning Tips

The summer is sadly coming to an end! We had some extremely hot temperatures throughout the summer. Your Air Conditioning system was running all day and night throughout the scorching summer! Now that the weather is cooling down there are some things you can do for your AC system in order to reduce the usage and extend the life of your unit.

Keep your AC Temperature Down – You shouldn’t have to use your AC system now like you did earlier in the summer. With the temperature outside lowering, lower the temperature on your thermostat in order to save energy and not overwork the unit.

Change your filter – Paul reminded you this week to be continuously changing your filters! Replace your old filter for better performance and efficiency for your unit.

Clean the condenser – A lot of times through the summer, the condenser will pile up debris near the unit and dirt and this can cause the unit to not run correctly. If your unit is constantly full of dirt and debris, this can restrict airflow and cause issues with it.

Maintenance Check -Your unit was working very hard during these extreme temperatures. Call Paul and have an Expert come out take a look at your unit to make sure everything is working correctly.

You don’t want to wait till the beginning of next summer when you need your AC right away!

Call Paul today for a maintenance check and assure your family’ comfort before next summer’s heat wave.

Why is my AC Leaking?

Why is my AC Leaking?

It's a constant question our customers ask us but it's not something that should be occurring! First thing you want to do is shut your unit off to prevent further damage. Then you want to CALL PAUL and have an expert take a look at your system right away!

When an AC begins to leak it can be from a variety of different issues. Paul has a few reasons here why this issue is happening

1.Clogged Condensate Line - This seems to be the most common issue with AC leaks. If your drain line gets clogged with dirt, dust, or any other debris the water backs up into your home and you need to unclog it.

2. Dirty filter - You should be changing your filters on a regular basis. If you don't a dirty air filter can block the airflow over the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil will get too cold and begin to freeze and the excess water in the drain pain will cause a leak.

3. Change your drain pan - Many of the older AC units have the same drain pan from the installation and they begin to rust over time.

4. Broken Condensate Pump - The condensate pump will pump water outside from your AC unit. If the pump breaks, the water stops pumping and this will cause a leak.

If you notice any of these issues going on , Call Paul right away to solve it!

How to prepare your AC for summer

Beach Season is coming! Do you really want to skip your next beach day because you had to fix the AC? With some routine maintenance before the summer your unit will be up and running in no time!

Paul has a few tips that will $ave you Money and Time!

f

  1. Change your filters – Clogged or Dirty filters will negatively impact the performance of your central air conditioning unit. The particles within the filter will affect the air you breathe (Indoor Air Quality).
  2. Clean the Condenser – Clear away all debris, leaves, grass, plants etc. from around the outside condenser. Make sure to clear any pollen or other contaminants that have developed around the unit. You can always use a garden hose sprayer on a low setting to hose down the condenser.
  3. Check the Refrigerant Lines – Take a look at the refrigerant lines and make sure they are completely insulated. If they are not completely insulated this could cause an energy loss.
  4. Check your vents – Make sure that you are opening all of the vents and making sure that cold air is coming out. Also closing vents can sometimes increase pressure in your ductwork and that extra pressure leads to leaking.
  5. Check the Condensate line – The condensate drain line empties our moister that your Central Air Unit collects from the air in your home. Ensure that the drain line is not clogged by using a wet vac to suck out the debris from it. A clogged drain line will set of a safety switch in your unit and will shut it down. If that happens, you need to call PAC right away.
  6. Get your Tune Up – Call Paul and get a PAC expert to do a professional tune up and save the time and energy. Our team of highly qualified experts will guarantee your family’s comfort during the summer heat wave.
